#16 Westridge Hut Trail
There is an extreme elevation gain of 2500' (750 meters) on the 3 km trail leading from the CMH road to the YORA hut. There is an open alpine area above the hut. From the cabin walk up hill through the park like sub alpine areas until you reach the alpine. From there you can explore an extensive alpine bench as well as some ridges and gullies. Getting There From Valemount drive South on highway 5 to the first lighted intersection, (about 3 km) and turn Right. Stay to the left just after leaving the highway. Take the left hand fork at 1 km on the CMH road, you will see the West Ridge Recreation Trail sign on your right at 11.7 km. Allow 3 hours to reach the cabin, the trail is quite steep in some places, it is only about 20 minutes to the alpine from the cabin. BC Forest Service Upper Canoe recreation site is beside the river at 6.5 km on the CMH road, this is a small rec site with an outhouse, picnic table and camping spots. There are also some short hiking trails along the Canoe river and above the road as well. Camping is free at this rec site.
